Andy Sachs and Miranda Priestly is reportedly coming back, not on the big cinema screens, but on the Broadway stage!
After the announcement of The Devil Wears Prada being developed into a musical, another news just broke that tells us the director, Anna Shapiro, will be taking the leap into extending the production to Broadway. Accompanying her in the production is Elton John as the show’s music head, Shaina Taub as the show’s lyricist, and Paul Rudnick on the story elements of the show.
Shapiro is a Tony Awards winner for directing ‘August: Osage County,’ and nominee for directing ‘The Motherf***er with the Hat.’ In an interview, Shapiro took time to acknowledge the great opportunity she has been offered, to be working with great production staff.
“I am truly honored to be a part of this incredible project,” Shapiro said in a statement. “Working with Shaina, Paul, and Sir Elton has already proven to be one of the great thrills of my career, and I look forward to bringing Lauren’s beloved world to the stage.”
Shaina Taub expressed the same gratitude as Shapiro on her Instagram account. “I still can’t believe this is real life, but I am writing the score for the Devil Wears Prada musical with Elton John. Hearing my words set to his melodies beyond blows my mind and I’m here to report he is an utterly kind, funny and generous collaborator. I love my damn job.”

um I still can’t believe this is real life, but I am writing the score for the Devil Wears Prada musical with Elton John. Hearing my words set to his melodies beyond blows my mind and I’m here to report he is an utterly kind, funny and generous collaborator. I love my damn job.
With Elton John’s music, we can expect that the musical is likely to be fast-paced, infused with rock ballad melodies that John, himself, is famous for. Elton John is also took part in producing the melodies behind Disney’s Lion King, and Tony-Award winning show Aida.
“Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theater is super exciting,” Elton John told Deadline in an interview. “I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture,” he added.
The Devil Wears Prada was based on the The New York Times bestseller book of the same name by Lauren Weisberger. The book tells the story of Northwestern University fresh grad, Andy Sachs, as she obliviously navigate through the fashion industry under the strict and merciless Runway editor, Miranda Pirestly.
While there are no news regarding the cast of the show yet, it is announced that Kevin McCollum, Fox Stage Productions, and Rocket Entertainment are going to produce the show.
