Humor and action collide as “Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles” starring Coco Martin, Maine Mendoza and Vic Sotto premieres on Cinema One this Sunday, July 28.
In the film, father and daughter police officers Popoy (Vic) and Em (Maine) meet Jack (Coco), a fellow cop. Em initially complains about Jack to his father, but their lives soon become entangled as they are assigned to work together on a case involving illegal drugs.
Will the three be able to work their way into solving the case? Or will they unravel truths from their past in the process?
The movie marked the first on-screen team-up of Coco and Maine, which earned them individual praises from Michelle Anne Soliman of BusinessWorld. “Mr. Martin suits roles in action movies which is evident in this one. Meanwhile, Ms. Mendoza’s acting chops seems natural since gaining popularity as an accidental actress,” she wrote.
Mario Bautista of Journal Online meanwhile commended Vic’s execution of his emotional scenes saying, “Vic plays his real age as the dad of Maine Mendoza, but there’s a twist here that gives him the chance to do some sensitive dramatic scenes that, in fairness to him, he was able to handle very well.”
Directed by Michael Tuviera, the film was one of the top grossers in last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, where it won Best Editing and the FPJ Memorial Award.
Also part of the cast are Arjo Atayde, Ryza Cenon and Ronaldo Valdez, as well as Cherry Pie Picache and Tirso Cruz III in supporting roles.
