It looks like the internet just went crazy over the first teaser trailer of Frozen’s sequel, which Walt Disney released on Wednesday without any warning. Sure enough, after its release, the video instantly earned 116.4 million views which set a new 24-hour record for an animated movie.
Since Frozen acquired numerous recognition from its more than a billion sales worldwide to the Oscars awards for best animated movie and best original song for “Let It Go,” to the Broadway musical adaptation which received three Tony nominations, Frozen 2 definitely has big shoes to fill.
But it looks like Disney is not going to be intimidated with Frozen’s success, and instead takes this as an opportunity to up their game. With Frozen 2’s roughly two-minute trailer that showed barely a line of dialogue, and with no real hint of the plot, the teaser offered a somewhat “dark theme” to the sequel with its darker tones in cinematography that put the fans to the edge of their seats while developing theories of their own.
The film will arrive this November, and will retain its original cast including Idina Menzel as Elsa, and Kristen Bell as Anna. Jonathan Groff will also remain as Kristoff, and Josh Gad to play the snowman Olaf.
However, new cast will join the party with Westworld star Evan Rachel Wood and Black Panther’s Sterling K. Brown. Their characters are yet to be announced, but speculations on the internet says that Evan Rachel Wood’s character might be the fans-petitioned girlfriend Elsa would get, if the request gets approved by the management.
Frozen directors, Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, will also be coming back for to direct the sequel.
