Although a live action film remake of The Little Mermaid is already in the works, ABC just announced that it will also be staging a live musical production based on the much-loved Disney cartoon.
Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced the Polynesian princess Moana in the hit 2016 film of the same name, will take on the lead role of Ariel. Joining her are award-winning singer-actress Queen Latifah and reggae artist Shaggy as Ursula and Sebastian respectively. Considering the outstanding musical talent that all three actors are bringing to the production, fans of all ages will have much to look forward to when it airs on November 5, 2019.

The Wonderful World of Disney presents The Little Mermaid Live! is billed as a “never-before-seen hybrid format” that will run for two hours. Music for the show will draw from the classic songs of the original 1989 animated film, as well as the 2008 Broadway musical adaptation.
ABC first announced its plan to stage The Little Mermaid as a live musical back in 2017. Unfortunately, the network had to put the project on hold for some time due to budget-related concerns. Coincidentally, the production issues were resolved just in time for The Little Mermaid‘s 30th anniversary.
